8th Pay Commission: Can you get arrears of Rs 15 lakh even in a salary of Rs 50 thousand? This is the complete mathematics

These days there is a lot of curiosity among government employees about the 8th Pay Commission. Especially those employees whose basic salary is less than Rs 50 thousand, the biggest question in their mind is that how much increase will they get and how much arrears can be made. Many media reports and estimates suggest that if the right fitment factor is met, this arrears can reach lakhs.

Actually, fitment factor plays the most important role in Pay Commission. This decides how much the current basic salary will increase. In the 7th Pay Commission, this factor was 2.57, whereas for the 8th Pay Commission, different employee organizations have demanded from 2.0 to 3.25. If the factor is fixed more then there can be a big jump in both salary and arrears.

Income will increase from arrears

Now let’s talk about arrears. The government has not yet announced the implementation date of the 8th Pay Commission, but it is generally considered to be effective from the next day after the end of the previous commission. The 7th Pay Commission has ended on 31st December 2025, hence it is believed that the new salary can be implemented from 1st January 2026. If there is a delay in this, the employees may get a huge amount in the form of arrears at once.

Can you get 15 lakhs?

Suppose the basic salary of an employee is around Rs 50 thousand. If the fitment factor remains 2.0 then there will be limited increase in salary and arrears will also be less. But if this factor reaches 2.28 or 2.57, then the difference in the increased salary of every month can accumulate and create an arrear of lakhs of rupees in 15 to 20 months. In such a situation, the total arrears are expected to reach Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh, although this is purely a guess.

demands of employee organizations

Employee organizations say that this time the lower and middle class employees should get more relief in the salary increase. Therefore, along with increasing the fitment factor, there is a demand to keep the needs of the family also in mind. However, only the government will take the final decision and it may take time. At present it is clear that the 8th Pay Commission can have a big impact on the income and lifestyle of government employees in the coming time. Especially for those with basic salary less than Rs 50 thousand, this change can prove to be very important.
