The role of Bofors cannons was the most important in the Kargil war. These 155 mm Howitzer cannons proved to be very effective in targeting enemy posts in altitude areas. The firepower and accuracy of these guns demolished the enemy’s bunkers. The Bofors helped the Indian Army to continuously and accurately firing on the enemy’s position.

2- MiG-21, MiG-27 and Mirage-20000 fighter aircraft

The Indian Air Force used Mirage-20,000 aircraft for the first time in the Kargil War. These aircraft destroyed the enemy’s hideouts by dropping laser-guided bombs. MiG-21 and MiG-27 aircraft also played an important role in bombing and ground support. The accuracy of Mirage-20,000 and the ability to fly at height changed the war’s attitude. 3- 5.56 mm INSAS Rifle

Indian Army soldiers had new INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) rifles at that time. These rifles were able to light, accurate and automatic firing. The use of them in height areas proved beneficial for the soldiers.

4- AK-47 and LMG (Light Machine Gun)

Some Indian Army soldiers also had AK-47 rifles, which proved to be very effective in the close fight against the enemy. Apart from this, LMGS was also used to suppress the enemy position.

5- Mortar and Grenade Launcher

81 mm and 120 mm mortar were used to destroy Pakistani bunkers and outposts. Grenade launcher targeted the enemy’s hidden soldiers.

6- Anti-tank guided missile

The Indian Army also used anti-tank guided missiles to destroy enemy bunkers and posts. These missiles helped demolish the strong enemy’s locations.

This indigenous system wreaked havoc on the posts of the enemy. Pinaka was capable of firing a sixty twelve rockets. It was capable of attacking for forty kilometers. It was deployed in a very limited number but its performance was very excellent. However, Pinaka’s discussion is very less on the pretext of this war.

Apart from weapons in the Kargil war, the Indian Army also used communication equipment, night vision devices, satellite imagery and reconnaissance drones. This helped in detecting the enemy’s position and making strategies.
