8.5 years of Yogi government: Uttar Pradesh’s development model changed through ODOP, MSME and technology

In 8.5 years, Yogi government brought UP on the path from a backward state to a developed state. ODOP, MSME, Agri-Tech and women empowerment increased employment. Improvement in law and order and investment environment took the state forward in the direction of trillion dollar economy.

Lucknow. Uttar Pradesh has overcome many challenges and created a new path of development in the last eight and a half years under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Before 2017, UP was often counted among the backward states. The youth were forced to go to other states for employment. Mafia rule, corruption, nepotism and anarchy were prevalent. CM Yogi strengthened law and order, took action against crime and mafia and created a favorable environment for investment and industries. Today Uttar Pradesh is moving towards becoming a one trillion dollar economy.

Uttar Pradesh is a leading state moving forward in the field of development.

Despite being the most populous state of India, UP is now becoming the leader not only in numbers but also in development. The government has given maximum attention to three key areas:

  • Employment under One District-One Product (ODOP)
  • Extensive expansion of MSME sector
  • Special focus on agriculture-technology-women empowerment

With all these efforts, Chief Minister Yogi has made UP a model of “progress through tradition”.

Youth got huge employment base through ODOP scheme

The ODOP program started in 2018. Its objective was to connect the traditional products of every district—handicrafts, handmade goods, agricultural products—with the market.

  • More than 3 crore people have got direct and indirect employment in the ODOP sector.
  • Self-employment has been promoted by linking more than 5 lakh youth with banks.
  • UP’s exports were around ₹80,000 crore in 2016–17, which increased to more than ₹1.56 lakh crore.
  • The share of ODOP products in the total exports of the state has reached almost 70%.

Due to small industries, clusters, e-commerce platforms and digital marketing models in villages and cities, youth are now getting employment in their own state.

MSME ecosystem gave impetus to the development of small scale industries

MSME sector in Uttar Pradesh has become the backbone of the development of the state.

  • There are 96 lakh MSME units here, which is the highest in the entire country.
  • Small industries including rail-metal, textiles, handicrafts, food processing have created lakhs of jobs.
  • It is estimated that every Rs 1 crore investment can create 8 jobs.

The government is preparing 15 new MSME industrial areas in 11 districts, which will ease the availability of land and facilities. MSME entrepreneurs do not need any NOC for 1000 days. 25% procurement of MSME products by government departments and PSUs has been made mandatory. Every trader with GST registration is also getting a protection insurance cover of ₹5 lakh.

Agriculture and technology gave new impetus to the economy of UP

The combination of agriculture and technology has accelerated development in the state. Food-processing clusters, export chambers, cold chain infrastructure are being developed. The government is engaged in creating a digital agriculture ecosystem, through which farmers are getting access to technology, better seeds and direct market facilities. Production capacity is being increased through scientific research and use of new technologies. The goal is to achieve three times the production from the available agricultural land.

State’s development model strengthened by increasing role of women

Women participation has given a new direction to the economy of UP.

  • Women’s participation in MNREGA has reached 42% in the year 2025.
  • Women entrepreneurship has been promoted by technologies like e-mobile, smart agricultural equipment, digital marketing.

This transition from “tradition to modernity” in the state has been further strengthened by the role of women.

‘NaMo Drone Didi’ scheme – technical employment for women

‘NaMo Drone Didi Scheme’ has been started to connect women with technology in farming. Drone pilot training is being given to women’s self-help groups. Drones are being provided to them. Due to this, technology based employment is increasing for women in villages.

CM Yogi’s goal- developed Uttar Pradesh

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s goal was to ensure that the youth get employment in their own state. For this he laid emphasis on ODOP, MSME expansion, women entrepreneurship and modern infrastructure. Financial assistance was provided to the Tharu tribe by forming 371 urban self-help groups. This shows that the government is giving equal opportunities to youth and women while respecting the tradition. Due to this policy vision, CM Yogi has been recognized as a leader who connects “faith to economy”.

Benefits of development from village to city – creation of developed Uttar Pradesh

The focus of the Yogi government is to ensure that development is not limited to cities only, but villages, towns, youth, women and traditional industries are also involved. This is why “Developed Uttar Pradesh” is no longer just a slogan but is becoming a reality. The image of CM Yogi is now emerging as a leader who has worked as a bridge between tradition and modern economy.
