The 72nd National Film Awards winner list was unveiled on Saturday (July 19), and Dhanush’s films Captain Miller and Raayan won big. While the historical action-adventure film Captain Miller won the Best Film Promoting National, Social and Environmental Values award along with a Special Mention for Dhanush, Raayan was honoured in the Best Tamil Film category. After the victory, Dhanush shared a statement expressing his gratitude. He said that he was “truly humbled and overwhelmed” to receive the National Award and thanked the jury and selection committee. This marks Dhanush’s third National Award as an actor and his first National Award as a director.

He wrote, “I’m truly humbled and overwhelmed to have received the for Best Regional Film for Raayan and the National Award (Special Mention – Best Actor) for Captain Miller. My heartfelt gratitude to the esteemed National Film Awards jury and the selection committee. ” He also expressed his love to his fans and social media fraternity for their unwavering support throughout his career.
He added, “This is my third National Award as an actor and my first as a director. None of this would have been possible without my fans – the pillars of my strength. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Speaking about Captain Miller, Dhanush said the recognition was especially close to his heart because he had always believed it to be his finest performance to date. He added that receiving a Special Mention for a performance he held so dearly made the honour even more meaningful. He further wrote that winning his first National Award as a director for Raayan was a blessing he would cherish forever. Concluding his note, Dhanush added, “As I always say, Ennam pol vaazhkkai. Har Har Mahadev.”

About Captain Miller, Raayan
is a Tamil period action-adventure film, directed by Arun Matheswaran and starring Dhanush in the lead role. Dhanush’s performance was loved by fans and critics.
On the other hand, Raayan marked ’s second directorial venture. It also featured him in the lead role. The action drama revolves around a man who takes responsibility for protecting his family after a series of violent events, leading him into the world of crime and revenge.
