71st National Awards: Shah Rukh Khan’s salt-and-pepper look steals the show as he bags Best Actor Award

New Delhi: In a star-studded ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Tuesday (September 23, 2025), some of the biggest names in Indian cinema will be honoured with the National Film Awards. President Droupadi Murmu presented the awards, celebrating outstanding achievements in films released in 2023.

The event brought together celebrated actors, directors, and filmmakers, recognising their contributions to the industry and spotlighting remarkable performances and creative excellence.

Shah Rukh Khan gets National Award for Jawan

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan will be honoured for his stellar performance in the 2023 film Jawan. The actor received widespread acclaim for his role, and the film went on to mint over Rs 1000 crore worldwide. SRK sported a classic bandhgala with salt-and-pepper hair, a look from his upcoming film King, directed by Sidharth Anand.

National Awards 2025 winners

When the 71st National Film Awards were announced on August 1, they became the centre of attention, especially with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan receiving his first National Award for his performance in Jawan. He shared the Best Actor accolade with Vikrant Massey, who won for his role in 12th Fail.

Other winners included Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12th Fail, which bagged the Best Feature Film Award, and the quirky comedy Kathal – A Jackfruit Mystery, honoured as the Best Hindi Film. Rani Mukerji also received the Best Actress award for her compelling performance in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway. Meanwhile, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal was honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023 in recognition of his iconic and enduring contributions to the Indian film industry.
