Ashocking case of alleged ganja smuggling has come to light from Kandhamal, Odisha, where Sadar Police arrested two Uttar Pradesh-based men and allegedly seized 60 kg of ganja from their car.
According to police, the two accused were traveling in the vehicle dressed in Kanwariya attire. Acting on specific information about a vehicle allegedly carrying ganja, police intercepted the car near Sankshikata and conducted a search.
During the search, police allegedly recovered 60 kg of ganja concealed inside the car. The two occupants were subsequently taken into custody. Both the accused are residents of Uttar Pradesh.
Police are also investigating whether the Kanwariya attire was deliberately used to avoid scrutiny while transporting the contraband, or whether there was another reason behind their appearance.
Investigators are now trying to determine whether the accused have made similar trips in the past and whether they are connected to a larger interstate ganja trafficking network.
Kandhamal has frequently emerged as a transit point in cases involving the movement of cannabis to other parts of the country. Police are now probing whether the 60-kg seizure is an isolated consignment or part of a larger trafficking chain.
