6 dead after massive fire breaks out at residential building in Delhi’s Palam

New Delhi: At least six people were killed and 10 others were rescued after a fire broke out at a residential building in Palam area of southwest Delhi on Wednesday morning. Several other people are still trapped in the building and rescue operations are underway.

Around 30 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames and rescued people who may be trapped inside, said officials.

 

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed distress over the fire incident at the multi-story residential building and said magisterial enquiry has been ordered to investigate the incident.

“As per the information received, 6 feared dead, few people still trapped inside the building. District Administration, Delhi Fire Service Department & Delhi Police are leading rescue operation.  Praying for everyone’s safety!,” she wrote on X.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu expressed grief over the incident and said that rescue and firefighting operations are being closely monitored.

“Deeply distressed by the fire incident in a residential building near Palam Metro. My thoughts are with those affected by this tragic loss. Rescue and firefighting operations are being closely monitored, with all necessary support being extended,” he wrote on X.
