9 people have died in this accident which took place in Dindori, about 20 km from Nashik, Maharashtra. The saddest aspect is that all these members belonged to the same family.

How did the accident happen?

An official told PTI that the accident occurred around 10 pm on Friday night in Shivaji Nagar area of Dindori town. According to the police, all of them were returning home after attending a program organized at a banquet hall in the area, when their car fell into a well located near the venue. The officer said that all these people were members of Dargude family of Indore village of Dindori taluka.

The Dargode family, resident of Indore, had come to attend the program in their Ertiga car. When the family left for home after the program ended around 10:00 pm, the driver lost control of the vehicle at a short distance from the marriage hall. Due to this, the car fell into a well filled with water on the roadside.

As soon as information about the accident was received, the local administration, Nagar Panchayat fire brigade and police reached the spot. Due to the well being completely filled with water and it being night time, the initial rescue operation faced a lot of difficulties. However, after tireless efforts of crane and disaster management team, the car and the bodies were pulled out of the well.

32 year old Sunil Dattu Dargude, wife Reshma and their relative Asha have died in this accident. Also, Sunil and Reshma’s daughter Rakhi, studying in class 4, Anil Dargude and Asha’s daughter Shraddha, Shravani, Shrishti, studying in class 8 and Samriddhi, a class 1 student, also died. The bodies were brought to the government hospital in Dindori and a case was registered.

what are the reasons

The well in which nine members of the Dargude family died after falling was covered with a boundary just a few feet high. According to the Indian Express report, there are many reasons for this unsafe bridge, which include conversion of agricultural land into non-agricultural land, dispute between the land owner and the Nagar Panchayat, new concrete road and negligence.

Pooja Gadve, who lives in a bungalow near the well, told the newspaper, ‘Initially not many vehicles went there because the road was not paved and the local people knew that there was a well there. At that time it was covered and its boundary was also high.

According to the report, local resident Pramod Jangam said that when facilities like Raje Banquet Hall were built in the area, a concrete road was built about four-five years ago to provide an exit from the back and parking. The owner of this hall is accused Rajendra Raje, and that well also belongs to him.

“The town panchayat wanted to close the well as it had now become NA (non-agricultural) land, but Raje appealed against it and said he still had farming there,” said an official from Dindori police station. Since then this dispute is pending and the situation remains the same.
