For a long time, many buyers have been demanding a 4×4 SUV from Tata – yes, it had the Harrier and Safari, but due to their monocoque chassis, those models lacked a 4×4 drivetrain. However, Tata finally has an answer to its customers’ demands, as it plans to launch new 4×4 SUVs. Here’s a look at the upcoming Tata’s 4×4 SUVs –
Upcoming Tata 4×4 SUV – Safari EV

The first on the list is the Safari EV. Tata has already introduced a Quad-Wheel-Drive (QWD) configuration in the Harrier EV. Now, as the Safari EV is already in the launch pipeline, expect the same drivetrain to be equipped in this SUV as well. The Safari EV is expected to launch by early 2027. Being the brand’s first electric 7-seater, the Safari EV will likely rival the Mahindra XEV 9S.
It will be built on Tata’s Acti.ev platform and underpinned by all of Tata’s EVs, excluding the Nexon EV. The feature suite and battery pack are expected to carry over from the Tata Harrier EV. Pricing-wise, expect the Tata Safari EV to be priced between Rs 25 lakh and Rs 35 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
Tata Harrier & Safari

If you are not a fan of EVs, we also believe Tata might introduce the 4×4 configuration in its ICE models. This update is expected to come with the new generation of both these SUVs. We expect that Tata might use the new Argos platform for these SUVs, which is compatible with a 4×4 drivetrain.
Along with the update, expect the model to boast several other changes, including a new front and rear design; however, both models have recently received a new powertrain and a slew of features, so the chances of any major feature addition remain slim.
Tata Avinya X

Tata will launch the first Avinya model in India in 2027. The model will be based on the Tata-Chery Freelander architecture and is expected to come with a 4×4 drivetrain. Avinya models will be fully born-electric SUVs. And it will not just offer tech and performance but also some segment-first features, maintaining its luxury symbol.
The Avinya X is expected to be priced between Rs 40 lakh and Rs 50 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
New Compact Off-Roader

Tata Motors is reportedly developing a new compact SUV codenamed Scarlet. The model is expected to be the brand’s Mahindra Thar rival. The model will be available with both EV and ICE powertrains. While the details of this SUV are scarce at the moment, we expect it to be another boxy life-style SUV.
This model is expected to launch in 2027-28. While its too early to guess the price, we expect the model to be priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 17 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) for the ICE version and Rs 14 lakh and Rs 20 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) price range for electric version.
