Cardiac Surgeon Death: 39 -year -old Consultant Cardiac Surgeon Dr. Grandeline Roy died at Savita Medical Hospital in Chennai. He fainted due to a heart attack during the ward round on Wednesday. He died despite efforts to save.
According to Hyderabad -based neurologist Dr. Sudhir Kumar, Dr. Roy’s colleagues immediately launched a deep rescue operation. Dr. Kumar wrote on X, “The colleagues fought bravely, CPR, immediate angioplasty, intra-aortic balloon pump, even ECMO. But nothing could overturn the damage caused by the horrific heart attack due to 100% obstruction in the left main artery.”
30-40 year old doctor is having heart disease
Dr. Kumar said that Dr. Roy’s death was not the only incident. Doctors of 30–40 year old have increased heart attack incidents. He said that those who dedicate their lives to save the hearts of others often do not take care of their hearts. Dr. Roy is survived by his wife and a young son.
Why are doctors becoming heart patients?
Dr. Sudhir Kumar has told why the risk of heart attack among doctors is increasing. He said that long and irregular work hours often lead to lack of sleep and daily routine. Doctors have more stress due to fatigue, patients and families due to frequent pressure and treatment related concerns, which increases the risk of heart attack.
He also attributed the adverse lifestyle of doctors to heart diseases. Doctors stand in the operation theater for a long time or sit during OPD. This gives them very little time left for aerobic exercise.
Heart patients also make wrong food habits
According to Dr. Kumar, wrong food and drink habits also play an important role in this. Irregular food, dependence on hospital canteen and frequent caffeine consumption have become common. Many doctors postpone their health check -up. With this, they ignore the initial warning. Mental stress, depression and emotional exhaustion increases cardiovascular stress. Smoking and alcohol consumption in some doctors increases the risk.
