Garuda Purana, one of the main texts of Hinduism, describes in detail the fruits and punishments that the soul gets after death. It is told that the person who commits sins in his life is sent to hell after death.
According to Garuda Purana, there are 36 types of hells, where the soul is given different terrible tortures according to its sins.
Every hell is determined for a particular type of sin. Let us know, for which sin the soul is sent to which hell and what punishment is given there:

Tamiśra Hell: People who cheat for wife or money are put in dark hell.
Andhatāmisra Hell: Those who have relations with other women are tortured with hunger and thirst.
Raurava Hell: Those who harass the innocent are bitten by poisonous snakes.
Maharaurava Hell: Those who burn others and eat them are burnt in fire.
Kakoluk Hell: Those who commit atrocities are pecked by crows and owls.
Kootshalmali Hell: Those who lie are hung on thorny trees.
Andhakoop Hell: Those who boast of their knowledge are thrown into a blind well.
Avichi Hell: Those who betray religion are thrown down from a burning mountain.
Taptasurimi Hell: Those who commit foeticide are pricked with hot needles.
Samhata Hell: Those who usurp land are punished by ripping their bodies.
Vatsanar Hell: Rapists are punished with burning iron.
Sughorma Hell: Those who commit injustice are thrown into boiling oil.
Mahapaatak Hell: Those who betray their Guru are eaten by insects.
Creamik Hell: Those who kill animals are bitten by insects.
Lohshanku Hell: Those who kill innocent people are tied with iron nails.
Rakshakbhojan Hell: Those who kill by giving poison are given poisonous food.
Shalmali Hell: Those who give false testimony are made to climb a thorny tree.
Shravabhojya Hell: Those who eat other’s food are torn by dogs.
Sarameyadaan Hell: Those who do immorality are eaten by dogs.
Aasanpaan Hell: Those who drink alcohol are given poisonous liquid to drink.
Laalbhojan Hell: Those who insult Brahmin food are given meat.
Souchavat Hell: Those who disrespect purity are dipped in feces.
Prapatan Hell: Those who commit adultery are thrown down the mountain.
Vaitarni Hell: Those who do not donate are made to cross a dirty river.
Payu Hell: Those who steal are thrown into the feces.

Vidheerna Hell: The limbs of those who oppose religion are broken.

Kharbhojan Hell: Those who eat food earned through violence are given thorns to eat.
Shulaprot Naraka: Those who commit injustice are tied with thorns.
Prabhanjan Naraka: Those who snatch the livelihood of others are blown away in strong storms.
Theory of reincarnation and 84 lakh species
Garuda Purana also states that a human being not only faces the torture of hell, but he also has to take birth again and again in 84 lakh species – such as animals, birds, insects, aquatic creatures, plants etc. These births are also considered as a kind of punishment for the soul.
