The attack was so brutal that local villagers rushed to intervene and called the police
A land dispute in Bavlu village of Mehsana district turned violent on Saturday when a group of 70 to 80 anti-social elements launched a brutal assault on three individuals, including the original landowner, who had arrived for a court-mandated commission visit.
The victims, Manan Patel, Rimple Patel and Amit Sharma-were seriously injured in the attack and have been admitted to Zydus Hospital for treatment.
According to police sources, Manan Patel, the owner of the disputed land, had visited the site along with his friends Rimple and Amit, accompanied by a court officer, to establish ownership through a legal commission process. However, the situation quickly escalated when a large mob, allegedly consisting of those trying to illegally occupy the land, arrived armed with iron rods and sticks. In full view of the court officer, the mob mercilessly attacked the trio, leaving them grievously injured.
The attack was so brutal that local villagers rushed to intervene and called the police. Bavlu police reached the spot promptly and rushed the injured to Zydus Hospital. Police said the victims suffered serious injuries and are undergoing treatment.
An FIR has been registered under sections of attempt to murder and other relevant charges at Bavlu police station. Range DIG Gandhinagar, Virendra Yadav, said, “We have deployed heavy bandobast in the area to maintain law and order and are making all efforts to trace and arrest the accused.”
Police sources added that several suspects have already been rounded up, and CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being scanned to identify the remaining attackers. Authorities are also working to recover the deadly weapons used during the assault. “This was a premeditated attack on law-abiding citizens who were acting under court orders. Strict action will be taken against all those involved,” said DIG Yadav.
