New Delhi: South Africa finished the job in style as they sealed a 2-0 whitewash and handed India their biggest Test defeat at home. The final morning in Guwahati barely lasted as the nightwatchman went early and the rest followed without much resistance. Ravindra Jadeja fought as long as he could but a stunning Jansen catch and Simon Harmer’s relentless off-spin made sure there would be no miracle.
This result carries real weight as it has taken 25 long years for the Proteas to celebrate a Test series win on Indian soil, the last coming under Hansie Cronje back in 2000. Temba Bavuma now joins that rare list of visiting captains, keeping his unbeaten Test record intact as his side dominated from the moment Marco Jansen and Senuran Muthusamy rescued the first innings with that momentum-shifting stand on day two.
India never looked in control after that and once South Africa stretched their total to 489, Jansen’s burst on a spicy red-soil pitch left India crushed in the first innings. The visitors could have enforced the follow-on but chose instead to bat the hosts out of the contest. Stubbs’ misses near-century, Markram’s record nine catches and Harmer’s six-wicket masterclass wrapped up a statement victory and a series that will sting India for a while after their last year home whitewash at the hands of New Zealand.

Disappointing display of patience & technique from Indian batters. Need to get players in the test team who can play spin better.
