Following an NFL six-game ban for performance-enhancing drug (PED) violations, defensive end Michael Hoecht of the Buffalo Bills has openly admitted his mistake.
“It was my fault,” Hoecht, who recently inked a lucrative three-year contract worth $21 million, said in response to the incident on the ‘Ross Tucker Podcast’ on May 28. I was irresponsible and trusted people I should not have trusted. Born in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, Hoecht joined the NFL in 2020 as an undrafted free agent, first joining the Los Angeles Rams. Since making his professional debut in 2021, he has averaged more than 57.7 total tackles, 30.7 solo tackles, 4.5 sacks, and 0.7 forced fumbles annually. His current ban is especially disheartening because of the attention his league performance has received. Hoecht will not make his Buffalo Bills debut until Week 8 of the 2024 NFL season, when the team plays the Carolina Panthers, due to the six-game suspension. He will miss important games against a number of clubs, such as the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens. In Week 7, the Bills will have a bye week, which will prolong his absence from action. Hoecht will play his first home game against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9. Hoecht’s willingness to put this episode behind him is demonstrated by his acknowledgement of responsibility for the suspension. To help the Buffalo Bills succeed in the upcoming season, he wants to be ready to play when he returns.
