South Korean automaker Kia has officially revealed preliminary specifications for the upcoming strong-hybrid variant of its flagship Carnival multi-purpose vehicle. The details emerged following recent corporate announcements, outlining the brand’s broader push toward vehicle electrification in regional markets.
As per a by Kia.com, the upcoming hybrid model forms a key component of Kia India’s strategy to introduce multiple electrified vehicles following commitments made at its recent investor briefings. Unlike the existing diesel-only iteration, the hybrid variant pairs traditional combustion mechanics with an advanced electric propulsion system.
Kia Carnival Hybrid Powertrain and Performance Specs
The hybrid system combines a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine, delivering 180 hp and 265 Nm of torque, with an electric motor that generates an independent output of 73.4 hp and 304 Nm. This electric motor configuration provides slightly higher torque and power figures compared to sibling hybrid models in the automaker’s global portfolio.
Power is directed through a six-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the current diesel version continues to utilise a 2.2-litre engine coupled with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Design Aesthetics and Cabin Feature Retention
Externally, the Carnival Hybrid is expected to preserve the familiar styling of the standard model, differentiated primarily by a dedicated hybrid badge on the tailgate. Signature design elements such as the vertical LED headlights, connected rear light bar, and powered sliding doors remain intact.
Inside the cabin, the vehicle retains its three-row configuration, dual 12.3-inch displays, and comprehensive safety suite featuring eight airbags and Level 2 advanced driver-assistance systems. Official pricing and market availability details are expected to be announced closer to the official launch date.
