New Thar OG gets an upgraded platform and suspension, electric power steering and three trim levels, with prices extending to Rs 18.99 lakh
Mahindra has launched the new Thar OG in India at introductory prices ranging from Rs 10.32 lakh to Rs 18.99 lakh, ex-showroom. Succeeding the three-door Thar introduced in 2020, the updated SUV brings changes to its underpinnings, engines, styling, cabin and safety equipment.
The lineup comprises AXT, LXT and ZXT trims, spread across 15 engine, transmission and drivetrain combinations. A key addition is the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel with rear-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox. Deliveries begin on October 11, 2026, with introductory prices applicable to vehicles delivered until November 30, 2026.
Mahindra Thar OG Prices And Variants
The entry-level AXT is available exclusively with the 1.5-litre diesel engine, manual transmission and rear-wheel drive, priced at Rs 10.32 lakh. LXT starts at Rs 12.99 lakh, while ZXT begins at Rs 13.99 lakh.
The new diesel RWD automatic costs Rs 16.49 lakh in LXT trim and Rs 17.49 lakh in ZXT. The range tops out at Rs 18.99 lakh for the ZXT diesel 4WD automatic. All prices ex-showroom. Introductory pricing is valid for deliveries until November 30, 2026.
More Powerful Petrol And Diesel Engines
The 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engine now develops 119 kW, equivalent to approximately 159.6 bhp, and 330 Nm of torque. The 2.2-litre mHawk diesel produces 111.9 kW, or approximately 150.1 bhp, alongside 330 Nm. Compared to outgoing Thar, there is increased power and torque for both engines.
The 1.5-litre D117 CRDe diesel continues with unchanged outputs of 87.2 kW, equivalent to approximately 116.9 bhp, and 300 Nm. It is offered with a manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive across all three trims.
Both larger engines offer manual and automatic choices in 4WD form, while their RWD versions are automatic-only. The new mHawk RWD automatic gives buyers access to the larger diesel engine and automatic convenience without opting for four-wheel drive.
M_Glyde 4G Platform, Revised Suspension
A major part of the update is the M_Glyde 4G platform, which Mahindra says offers higher stiffness. The Thar OG also gets Pentalink rear suspension incorporating a Watt’s link, aimed at improving cornering stability and control.
Mahindra has introduced DaVinci damping technology, with frequency-dependent damping listed on the top ZXT trim. The setup is designed to balance body control with ride comfort over uneven surfaces.
Electric power steering is offered from the base AXT, with Mahindra highlighting reduced effort, improved straight-ahead response and better returnability. Enhanced noise and vibration control also forms part of the update, reflecting a focus on everyday refinement alongside off-road ability.
Differential Lock And Terrain Modes For 4WD Versions
LXT and ZXT 4WD versions get a rear electronic locking differential and Sand, Snow and Mud terrain modes. The differential can be locked at the push of a button to help maintain drive when the rear wheels encounter differing levels of traction.
Terrain modes adjust traction control, steering assistance and accelerator response, along with shift behaviour on automatic versions. The 4WD models also feature a transfer case with 4H and 4L. The 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol RWD versions receive Terrain Assist. A washable floor with drain plugs is restricted to the 4WD versions.
New Styling, Eight Colour Options
The Thar OG gets a new five-slot grille, revised front and rear bumpers and a wider track. Its familiar upright silhouette, circular headlamp shape and tailgate-mounted spare wheel remain. Mahindra is offering eight exterior colours, including two new additions—Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue.
Lighting and wheel specifications vary by trim. AXT gets halogen headlamps and 18-inch steel wheels, while LXT upgrades to 18-inch alloys. ZXT receives new 19-inch alloys, LED headlamps with C-shaped DRLs and LED fog lamps with a cornering function. LED tail-lamps are offered from the base trim.
Updated Cabin And Convenience Features
Inside, the Thar OG gets revised materials and trim, with soft-touch door panels and available Truffle Brown leatherette upholstery. Rear AC vents, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, push-button start and soft second-row armrests are included from AXT.
LXT adds a 26.03 cm, approximately 10.25-inch, HD touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a colour MID, cruise control and electrically adjustable mirrors. Other features include embossed fabric seats, a rear wiper and washer, a tyre direction monitoring system and Adventure Statistics Gen II.
ZXT adds embossed leatherette seats, a leatherette-wrapped steering wheel and wireless charging, alongside its exterior and safety upgrades.
Six Airbags And Four Disc Brakes On ZXT
The top ZXT trim gets six airbags, comprising two front airbags and four HPTS airbags for front and rear occupant protection. Mahindra describes HPTS as Head, Pelvis, Thorax and Shoulder protection. AXT and LXT have dual airbags.
ZXT also upgrades to disc brakes on all four wheels and adds a tyre pressure monitoring system, rear-view camera and front parking sensors. Lower trims use front discs and rear drums. ESP with rollover mitigation is included from AXT. Mahindra’s ESP 9.3 suite also incorporates functions such as traction control, hill hold and hill descent control.
