2026 Mahindra Thar Facelift Spied With New Grille, Alloys – Launch Soon

This new grille has a more prominent retro aesthetic compared to the Roxx-like grille seen on earlier test mules

Mahindra introduced multiple updates for the 3-door Thar last year in October. Test mule sightings in recent months indicate that the 2026 Thar facelift model is now being readied.   could introduce the facelift version later this year. Ahead of that, another test mule has been spotted with a refreshed front fascia including a new grille design.

Test mules of 3-door Thar spotted earlier were seen with a grille design almost identical to that of Thar Roxx. In these latest spy shots, the test mule is using a distinctive 4-bar slatted grille. To give it a more dynamic appearance, a small horizontal strip has also been added on the top right of the grille. It is possible that this space could be utilized to install a badge.

With test mules spotted with different grille designs, it is possible that the grilles could vary based on the variant. This new 5-slot grille is closer to the design seen with the existing 3-door Thar. However, the current model has 6 vertical bars, creating seven slots. The new grille seen with the recent test mule appears more rectangular, as compared to the squarish grille design seen with the current model.

Enthusiasts who prefer a strong retro flavour are likely to appreciate this new grille design. There could be some other minor changes as well in this recent test mule. However, finer details are not apparent due to the heavy camouflage. Other features such as the headlamps and bumper appear largely the same as that of test mules spied earlier. Thar facelift can be seen using a 5-spoke alloy wheel design. This is different from the current model, but somewhat resembles the alloy wheel design of the Roxx. Wheel size has also changed, with the facelift version expected to get 19-inch units. These could be optional or offered with the higher trims. The current 3-door Thar has R16 wheels with the AXT variant and R18 wheels with the LXT.

New features, performance

Inside, the 2026 Thar facelift could get important updates like Level 2 ADAS. The package could mirror the ADAS features available with the Roxx. Mahindra has designed these ADAS features to better suit Indian road conditions. Depending on the variant, various other features could be added such as ventilated front seats and automatic climate control.

Thar facelift could also get features like auto folding ORVMs, wireless charging pad, keyless entry with push button start, and auto dimming IRVM. Powertrain options for Thar facelift are expected to be the same as the current model. The 1.5-litre diesel engine generates 117 hp and 300 Nm of torque. It has a RWD setup and is offered with only a 6-speed manual transmission.

With the 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, the output is 150 hp and 300 Nm (MT) / 320 Nm (AT). Both RWD and 4WD options are available. Thar is also available with a 2.2-litre diesel engine that generates 130 hp and 300 Nm of torque. It is offered only in a 4WD configuration. Transmission options for the 2.0-litre petrol and the 2.2-litre diesel include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
