New Delhi. The murder case of Delhi Jal Board (DJB) assistant engineer Suresh Kumar Rathi, which took place in Rohini area of Delhi, had shaken the entire city. 59-year-old Rathi was murdered in his flat on the night of October 31, but the police got the clue only when CCTV footage of a man wearing a hoodie surfaced. This video showed the direction to solve this Delhi Jal Board Assistant Engineer Suresh Kumar Rathi (Delhi Jal Board Murder Mystery).
The man in the hoodie became the biggest clue in the case
Delhi Police engaged in investigation examined more than 200 CCTV footage. In one of these videos, a man wearing a hoodie was seen entering the flat at around 9 pm, but was not seen coming out. When the police matched the entry and exit footage, they suspected that the same person was involved in the murder of engineer Rathi.
Police formed a team of 200 personnel, clue was found from scooter
Several teams were formed to investigate. From the footage of CCTV cameras installed on the nearby roads, the police saw a scooter which was moving away from the spot. After identifying the scooter, the police directly reached Aman Vihar area where they found accused Bunty, who was already wanted in cases of theft, Arms Act and Gambling Act.
How the conspiracy was hatched: First friendship, then crime.
During police interrogation, Bunty confessed that he had met Rathi earlier – on 25 and 27 October. He was gradually increasing his friendship with Rathi so that he could win her trust. On the night of 31 October, he reached the flat on the pretext of meeting, where he committed murder with the intention of robbery. After that he ran away with jewelery and cash.
Changed location to avoid tracking, still caught
After the murder, Bunty kept changing her location – sometimes Kashmiri Gate, sometimes Vikaspuri, sometimes Peeragadhi. He kept switching the mobile on and off to avoid the police teams. But the Technical Surveillance and Human Intelligence team of Delhi Police finally arrested him from Madhuban Chowk.
The murderer’s motive: breaking the trust and looting
Investigation revealed that Bunty had already planned the murder. He murdered Rathi by hiding a knife in his hoodie and ran away. Police have recovered stolen cash, jewellery, two mobile phones and a scooter from him.
Is the case completely solved?
Although Delhi Police has claimed that the case has been solved, investigation is still going on whether Bunty had any accomplice or whether he disposed of some stolen goods.
