Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has retained the image of his ‘Good Governance Babu’ by resigning from several ministers on corruption charges. But now Prashant Kishore has accused many of his ministers of corruption. Despite this, CM Nitish is keeping silence.
Patna: In Bihar politics, the political journey of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, known as ‘Good Governance Babu’, has been full of ups and downs. In the last nearly two decades, he has taken many difficult decisions to keep the image of his government clean and anti-corruption. The most important of these is to resign from ministers who were accused of corruption or any dispute.
This policy of Nitish Kumar gives him a distinct identity in Bihar politics. He removed not only the leaders of his allies, but also the ministers of his own party without delay, so that no questions were raised on his government’s honesty and transparency.
1. Jitan Ram Manjhi (2005)
During Nitish Kumar’s first term, the then Welfare Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi was accused of admission in an engineering college. The Chief Minister immediately demanded his resignation. However, Manjhi later got a clean chit and became a confidant of Nitish. Later he was also made the Chief Minister of Bihar.
2. Ramanand Singh (2008)
The then Rural Development Minister Ramanand Singh was accused in a case of government land. Nitish Kumar resigned from him on the basis of preliminary investigation. This step was important to maintain the government’s anti -corruption image.
3. Awadhesh Kushwaha (2015)
Just before the 2015 assembly elections, Product and Alcohol Prohibition Minister Awadhesh Kushwaha was caught taking bribe in a sting operation. Nitish immediately accepted his resignation. This decision did not push the image of the government before the election.
4. Manju Verma (2018)
After the Muzaffarpur girl child scandal, the name of Social Welfare Minister Manju Verma came into the limelight. Her husband was accused of having a relationship with the main accused in the case. Seeing the political pressure and the seriousness of the case, Nitish Kumar resigned from him.
5. Mevalal Chaudhary (2020)
Hours after taking the oath, the old allegations of corruption against Education Minister Mevalal Chaudhary again came up again. Nitish immediately accepted his resignation to maintain the opposition’s attack and the government’s honesty.
6. Karthik Kumar (2022)
Law Minister Karthik Kumar was accused of taking oath despite being warrant in the old kidnapping case. As the dispute escalated, he was given other responsibilities by changing the department, but eventually he had to resign.
Do not tolerate stained image
This style of Nitish Kumar clearly shows that he does not tolerate ministers with tainted image in his government. His policy has been important for maintaining the credibility of the government.
However, recently Prashant Kishore, the architect of Jansuraj, has made serious allegations of corruption against three ministers of Nitish government. Despite this, neither JDU, nor BJP nor Chief Minister have given any official statement. This silence also indicates his decisions and strict policy.
The strictness of Nitish Kumar has given him a special identity in Bihar politics-where he has taken steps above his political interests for a clean and honest government.
