Major Blasts in India History Timeline: India has seen many painful incidents of terrorism since independence. Sometimes there were blasts in markets, and sometimes crowded areas like trains, airports and temples were targeted. These incidents also brought major changes in the security system, intelligence agencies and policies of the country. Hyderabad Police Station Blast (1947)
A few days after independence, on 17 August 1947, there was a blast at the police station in Hyderabad. The attack took place amid communal violence in which several policemen were killed.
Air India Flight 182 blast (1985)
On June 23, 1985, a bomb exploded on Air India Flight 182 coming from Canada to India. This explosion occurred near the coast of Ireland in which 329 people were killed. This was India’s biggest plane crash which occurred due to a terrorist attack.
Rudrapur blasts (1991)
On 17 October 1991, two blasts took place in Ramlila Maidan and hospital area in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand. More than 40 people were killed and 140 were injured in these blasts.
Bavbazar blast, Kolkata (1993)
On 16 March 1993, there was an explosion in a bomb factory in Bavbazar area of Kolkata. 69 people died in this accident. This explosion was an accidental blast but its effect was very terrible.
Mumbai serial blasts (1993)
On March 12, 1993, there were 12 blasts one after the other in Mumbai, in which 257 people were killed and more than 700 were injured. This was India’s first organized terrorist attack, behind which Dawood Ibrahim gang and Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI were said to be behind.
Red Fort attack (2000)
In December 2000, Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists opened fire on the historic Red Fort of Delhi. Two soldiers and one civilian died in this attack. This attack was carried out on the heart of the country’s capital.
Delhi Diwali blasts (2005)
In October 2005, just before Diwali, three blasts took place in crowded markets like Sarojini Nagar, Paharganj and Govindpuri in Delhi. In which 62 people died and more than 200 were injured.
Mumbai local train blast (2006)
On July 11, 2006, bomb blasts took place at 7 places in Mumbai local trains. 210 people were killed and more than 700 were injured. This was one of the most dangerous incidents in Indian railway history.
Samjhauta Express Blast (2007)
On 18 February 2007, a bomb exploded in the Samjhauta Express running between India and Pakistan. The attack took place near Panipat in Haryana in which 68 people, mostly Pakistani nationals, were killed.
Jaipur Blast (2008)
On May 13, 2008, nine explosions were heard in the pink city of Jaipur. 63 people were killed and more than 200 were injured in these attacks. The terrorists targeted markets and temples.
Ahmedabad serial blasts (2008)
On 26 July 2008, bomb blasts took place at 21 places in Ahmedabad. 56 people lost their lives and many were injured in these blasts. The responsibility for this was taken by Indian Mujahideen.
Delhi serial blasts (2008)
On 13 September 2008, 5 blasts took place in areas like Connaught Place, Karol Bagh and Greater Kailash of Delhi. 30 people were killed and more than 100 were injured.
Malegaon blast (2008)
On 29 September 2008, a bomb exploded in a crowded market in Malegaon, Maharashtra. Five people died and many were injured.

Assam blasts (2008)
On 30 October 2008, 18 blasts occurred simultaneously in Assam. 77 people died and more than 100 were injured in these blasts. This attack was the biggest blast in the history of Assam.
Mumbai 26/11 Taj Attack (2008)
On 26 November 2008, 10 terrorists from Pakistan reached Mumbai by sea and attacked places like Taj Hotel, Oberoi Trident, Nariman House, CST Station and Leopold Cafe. 166 people died in this encounter that lasted for four days. Ajmal Kasab was captured alive. This attack proved to bring a major change in India’s security policies.
Pune German Bakery Blast (2010)
On 13 February 2010, a bomb blast took place at the famous German Bakery in Pune. 17 people were killed and more than 60 were injured.

Pathankot airbase attack (2016)
On January 2, 2016, terrorists from Pakistan attacked Pathankot airbase. 7 Indian soldiers were martyred in this attack and the encounter continued for several hours.
Uri attack (2016)
On 18 September 2016, a terrorist attack took place on an Indian Army camp in Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir. 19 soldiers were martyred in this. After this incident, India conducted ‘surgical strike’.
Pahalgam attack (2025)
On 22 April 2025, terrorists attacked tourist bus and security forces in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. 45 people lost their lives in this tragic incident.
Delhi Red Fort Blast (2025)
On 10 November 2025, a car blast took place near Red Fort metro station in Delhi. The blast was so powerful that many nearby vehicles and shops were damaged. So far 8 people have been confirmed dead and 24 injured.
