20 Delhi schools, including DPS Dwarka, get bomb threat emails; campuses evacuated

New Delhi: Around 20 schools in the capital, including Delhi Public School (Dwarka), received bomb threat emails on Monday morning, forcing authorities to carry out checks on their premises. Police officials said the emails, sent via Gmail, carried almost identical wording and were suspected to have come from the same sender. Delhi Police, along with cyber units, are working to trace the sender. Nothing has been found in any of the schools so far, the officer added.

Following the emails, authorities at Delhi Public School, Dwarka, informed the police and issued a circular announcing the closure of the school. This is the fourth such incident in the past month involving threatening emails to schools.

Delhi Fire Service (DFS) said that they received a call at 7:24 am about a possible bomb at DPS Dwarka. Fire service personnel, the Bomb Detection Team (BDT), the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and local police were sent to the spot. After combing the premises, officials confirmed that nothing suspicious was found. “Nothing suspicious has been detected so far,” the official confirmed.

A police officer added that two more schools in Dwarka—Modern Convent School and ShreeRam World School in Sector 10—also received similar threats by email.

In a circular to parents, DPS said, “The school will remain closed on Monday, 18 August 2025, due to unavoidable circumstances. Students travelling by school buses and private vans are being sent back. Teachers on bus duty will share location updates. Kindly pick up your wards at their bus stops.”

“For private commuters, parents are requested to collect their children from the school. Monday tests and activities stand postponed, and fresh dates will be shared shortly. We seek your cooperation,” it added.

Last month, St Thomas School in Dwarka, Vasant Valley in Vasant Kunj, Richmond Global in Paschim Vihar, Mother’s International in Hauz Khas, and Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in Lodhi Estate received hoax bomb threats. In one case, police detained a 12-year-old who allegedly emailed threats to a school and a Delhi University college.

Since May last year, more than 200 schools in the capital have faced bomb threats via official emails. Similar threats have also been sent to hospitals, colleges, and the Delhi Airport.
