2 New Maruti MPVs For India – Electric & Hybrid Family Cars Detailed

Maruti Suzuki has an aggressive product offensive planned for the Indian market, with a major focus on SUVs and MPVs. Following a multi-powertrain strategy, the upcoming lineup will be offered with petrol, CNG, electric, hybrid and flex-fuel options. For family car buyers, the Indo-Japanese carmaker is preparing two new MPVs codenamed, YMC (electric) and YVF (hybrid), which are expected to arrive in late 2026 and 2029, respectively.

Maruti Electric MPV (YMC)

The  ,which is currently undergoing tests, will be based on the brand’s born EV architecture. The YMC is expected to share its powertrain with eVitara, which is available with the 49kWh 2WD, 61kWh 2WD and 61kWh AWD configurations. The midsize electric SUV offers a driving range of up to 428km on a single charge. However, the performance figures of the new Maruti electric MPV could differ slightly.

Spy shots reveal that the Maruti YMC will carry a boxy stance with upright front and rear sections. Some of its design elements could be borrowed from the Ertiga. The test mule was spotted with large headlamps with a drop-down element, aero-optimized alloy wheels, eVitara-inspired front bumper and vertical taillamps wrapped around the windscreen. Similar to the eVitara, the new MPV will feature pull-type door handles.

Maruti Hybrid MPV (YVF)

According to reports, Maruti Suzuki is also working on a premium compact MPV, which will be based on the Suzuki Solio sold in Japan. Codenamed YVF, the model will be positioned against the Renault Triber and Nissan Gravite. Details of the new Maruti hybrid MPV are still under the wraps. However, it’s likely to feature Maruti Suzuki’s in-house developed strong hybrid powertrain (codenamed HEV). The Japan-spec Solio is available with a 1.2L, 3-cylinder petrol hybrid powertrain, paired with a CVT gearbox.

Similar to the Suzuki Solio, the new Maruti hybrid MPV is expected to measure 3,810mm in length, 1,645mm in width and 1,745mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,480mm. It could also become the brand’s first model to feature powered sliding rear doors.
