Delhi government earned rapid money from alcohol
The consumption of alcohol in Delhi has made a new record. Within the first quarter (April to June) of FY 2025-26 (April to June), the Delhiites took about 17 crore liquor bottles. Due to such a tremendous sale, the treasury of the Delhi government has earned a hefty of Rs 2,662 crore. These figures are much higher than the previous year’s Rs 259 crore, which has given wings to the target of the government’s excise tax collection.
They earned the most
Four agencies of Delhi government have done this
- DSIIDC (Delhi State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation) 5.29 crore bottles
- DTTDC (Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation) 5 crore bottles
- DSCSC (Delhi State Civil Supplies Corporation) 3.65 crore bottles
- DCCWS (Delhi Consumer Cooperative Wholesa Stores) 2.91 crore bottles
These four agencies have run a total of more than 700 liquor shops, from where liquor is sold. In the first quarter of the last year (2024-25), these agencies sold a total of 15.93 crore bottles, which earned them Rs 2,403 crore. This time this figure has increased to Rs 2,662 crore.
Government’s tax collection will increase with alcohol
The Delhi government has targeted to raise Rs 7,000 crore Excise Revenue this year. The first three months strong sales will help to achieve this target.
Government working on new policy
The Delhi government is now working on a new excise policy, which aims to increase revenue and provide better facilities to customers. This policy is being prepared by a high level committee under the leadership of Chief Secretary Dharmendra Kumar. In this, the policies of other states are being studied so that high quality liquor supply can be ensured with transparency.
Dispute on old policy
Let us know that in 2022, the excise policy of the Delhi government was canceled 2021-22, after which the sale of liquor was interrupted for some time. But now the situation is gradually becoming normal and sales figures are also looking better.
