A 16-year-old student gave birth to a child in a girls hostel in Koppal. This incident shows serious negligence on the part of the hostel staff. Mother and child are healthy and the police is investigating to find the accused.
Koppal (Karnataka): There is immense anger in the entire district over an inhuman incident that took place in a village in Kuknoor taluka of the district. A 16-year-old class 10th student studying in a girls’ hostel has given birth to a boy, the news of this heart-wrenching incident has come to light. The incident took place in the girls hostel of Itagi village in Kukunoor taluka, and the news of a student giving birth to a boy has shocked the locals. Information has been received that the girl’s delivery took place inside the hostel, due to which serious questions are being raised on the negligence and working style of the hostel staff.
Mother and child admitted to hospital
After delivery, the mother and the newborn boy have been admitted to the Mother and Child Hospital in Koppal. At present, the girl is undergoing treatment at Kukunoor hospital and according to sources, both are healthy. But, now the biggest question is why the hostel staff did not know that the 16 year old minor girl was pregnant and gave birth to a child.
District Magistrate, SP met
As soon as the news of this incident was received, Koppal District Magistrate Suresh Itnal and District Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr. Ram L. Arsiddi immediately reached the hospital and inquired about the girl’s health. The District Magistrate has directed the officials to thoroughly investigate this serious matter. This incident took place in Kukunoor police station area and the police immediately started investigating the matter. The police have formed special teams and laid a trap to nab the youth responsible for the girl’s pregnancy. Police sources have said that soon the accused will be arrested and legal action will be taken.
Possibility of complaint against hostel staff
In this case, a complaint is likely to be filed against the hostel supervisor and other staff. Prima facie, it is clear that the hostel warden and staff, who had full responsibility for the safety of the minor girl, have been negligent in their duty. The district administration has come forward to take necessary steps regarding the girl’s health, mental condition and her future. This incident has once again exposed the shortcomings of the security arrangements in the hostels of the state, and now the concerned departments need to wake up and take strict steps for the safety of the girls.
