15 -day -old son was kept by mother in the fridge, family surprised … Doctor told surprising disease

Psychiatrist Karthikeya Gupta

In Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, a woman kept her 15 -day newborn child in the fridge and went to sleep herself. Hearing the cry of the child, the grandmother present in the house took him out of the fridge. When the grandmother talked to the woman about this, she told that the child was crying, not sleeping. So he put it in the fridge. The family was shocked to hear this. At first he thought that there is probably some kind of ‘upper effect’ on the woman, so he took her to Baba who broke, but to no avail.

Later, on someone’s suggestion, the family decided to take the woman to the city’s psychiatrist Karthikeya Gupta, where her treatment started. The psychiatrist said that the woman suffers from a mental illness, which is called PostPartum Disorder. This situation is seen in some women after delivery. The doctor said that after delivery, about 10-15 percent of women show symptoms of postpartum blues.

Postpartum psychosis

It is usually mild and cured in a few days or weeks. However, in some cases this condition may become severe and take the form of postpartum depression or postpartum psychosis. Postpartum psychosis is a serious mental state, seen in 0.1–0.2 percent women. Women suffering from this disease may have a tendency to behave, hallucinations, excessive anxiety, sleep and sometimes harmful behavior towards themselves or children.

‘Cure possible’

Such women may feel that someone will harm them or their child. The doctor said that treatment of this condition is possible. This requires medicines, psychological counseling, and family cooperation by psychiatrists. Starting treatment on time can cure the woman completely. Family members were advised to take care of the woman and provide her emotional support.
