The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered the formation of a new Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Uttar Pradesh Police. The team will conduct a preliminary inquiry into the alleged collusion between Noida Authority officials and builders regarding the claims of compensation given to the farmers, farmers.
A bench of Justices Suryakant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi ordered the formation of a new SIT with three IPS officers which will replace the previous SIT. The bench ordered that the new SIT would immediately register a preliminary inquiry and examine the points exposed by the previous SIT. Along with forensic experts, the Economic Offenses Branch of the State Police (EOW) will also be linked to it. The court said that if after preliminary investigation, the SIT feels that prima facie cognizable offense has taken place, it will file a case and take further action according to the law. The court also asked the SIT to file the status report.
