A roadmap for crowd management is ready for the safety of more than 12 crore devotees in Prayagraj Magh Mela. Emphasis is being laid on coordination among all security agencies. Mock drills and practices will be started before January 3.
Prayagraj, 23 December. The security and management of more than 12 crore devotees in the Magh Mela which is going to be held on the banks of Sangam is a big challenge for the administration. To deal with this, disaster management and all the security agencies associated with it prepared a road map for security and management. Now efforts to bring it on the ground will be started. In the Magh Mela, the great gathering of faith, which is going to be held on the banks of Sangam from January 3, this time between 12 to 15 crore devotees are expected to reach the banks of Triveni, more than all the Magh Melas organized so far.
UP government made a plan to deal with the emergency
In view of this number of devotees, UP Disaster Management Authority and associate agencies of Magh Mela administration discussed and put forward suggestions for crowd management and to deal with any kind of emergency. The two-day symposium and tabletop exercise ended on Tuesday at the Cobra Auditorium in Sadar, New Cantt. Efforts are now being made to implement the experiences and conclusions gained from the dialogue on the ground.
There will be mock drills and exercises to prevent crowding
Vice Chairman of UP Disaster Management Authority, Lieutenant General (retired) Yogendra Dimri says that the safety of the devotees is our first priority. For this, special attention is being paid to coordination among all agencies. Putting forward the notes obtained at the conclusion of the program, Vice Chairman of the Authority, Dimri said that for crowd management, we will have to keep an eye on the availability of holding areas and intersections. Crowd dynamics and risk factors have to be taken into account. We have to understand the weakest link very well because we understand our strengths but often forget our limitations and weak links. After discussing all the points, now mock drills and exercises will have to be done for this. Commissioner Soumya Aggarwal said that mock drills and exercises on points related to these subjects are starting from December 27, in which preparations like fire fighting and water safety will be tested.
