’12, 13 or 15 Sixes’: Karan Lal turns plan into reality with sublime knock in Bengal T20 League

The Bengal T20 League has received a perfect impetus as Karan Lal played a stellar knock on Thursday (June 11) for Siliguri Strikers, scoring 145 runs off just 64 deliveries against Howrah Warriors.

Karan Lal converted his pre-season ambitions into a match-winning performance, producing one of the most explosive knocks of Bengal T20 League Season 3. He blasted 145 off just 64 balls against Adamas Howrah Warriors, hammering 14 sixes and 7 fours in a dazzling display.

After the innings, Karan highlighted the importance of patience and finding his rhythm before shifting gears.

“In my previous innings, I think I was in a bit of a hurry. Today, I stayed calmer and gave myself some time. Once I felt I was in rhythm and moving well, I picked up the pace and carried it from there.”

He clarified that the barrage of sixes was the result of deliberate preparation rather than an on-the-spot decision.

“I had been planning for a long time to play an innings where I could hit 12, 13 or even 15 sixes. Whenever I practice, I hit around 100-150 sixes in open grounds and I’ve worked a lot on my bat speed. Today’s innings is the result of that effort,” the Bengal player added.

The innings carried extra weight as Karan had already set high expectations for himself before the tournament, following a strong showing in the previous season. Having switched teams after two years with Kolkata Royal Tigers, he was determined to make an impact in his new colours. While prioritising team success, Karan also set lofty individual targets for the campaign.

“I have some personal goals and plans in this tournament. I want to win, but I also have a personal goal. I was the highest run scorer last year, and this year I’m thinking that even if I become the highest run scorer again, I’ll be at least 100-200 runs ahead of the other players. Last year I scored 20 sixes that was also the highest in the tournament. But this year I have a different target. I want to score 35 sixes. That’s my personal plan.”

His blistering 14-six haul against Adamas Howrah Warriors has given him the perfect start toward achieving those goals and signals another commanding season ahead. Before the tournament, Karan reflected on his early cricketing journey and inspirations.

“When I was a kid, my dad used to watch a lot of cricket on TV. Watching Sachin sir, Yuvraj sir, Sourav Da they were all big stars in front of me and I used to follow their cricket a lot. That’s where it started. My dad is a teacher, so he used to focus more on studies, but gradually I started playing cricket in 2011. That’s where my journey began,” the player continued.

On the broader importance of the Bengal T20 League, Karan sees it as a crucial platform for local talent.

“The Bengal T20 League is the biggest open door. If you do well here, IPL franchise scouts can see you. It’s very helpful for local players if a player can’t make it into the state side or into Syed Mushtaq Ali or Vijay Hazare, this platform gives them visibility across India. Franchises can spot them. It’s very good for local players.”

With one unforgettable innings already delivered, Karan Lal’s ambitious targets for Season 3 now look increasingly achievable.
