New Delhi : The use of mobile phones in schools is affecting children’s education and incidents like cyber bullying are also increasing. In view of this concern, 58% of the countries of the world have banned mobile phones in schools. This information has come out in the report of the Global Education Monitoring Committee of UNESCO.

According to the report, 114 countries of the world have banned mobile phones in schools. A member of the committee said, ‘In June 2023, less than 1 in 4 countries (24%) had such a ban. This figure will increase to 40% by 2025 and further increase by 20% by March 2026.

More danger for girls!

The report also states that the use of social media is worsening eating habits (eating disorder). Its impact is double on girls as compared to boys. Because of Instagram, 32% of teenage girls are struggling with body image issues. Children who start using social media at the age of 10 have to face social and emotional problems when they grow up. However, this problem is not seen in boys.

Countries like Australia, France, Portugal and Spain have banned the use of social media for children. There is debate going on in many other countries also. Recently, the Karnataka government has also proposed to take a similar step.
