Cancer Risk in India: If we look at the cases of cancer around the world, India comes at number two where cancer cases are found the most. China is at number one. The population is also high in these countries, due to which the cases of cancer are also found more. According to the 2022 data of Globocan of International Agency for Research on Cancer, about 14 lakh cases of cancer were reported in India. At the same time, more than 9 lakh people were dead due to cancer. Will understand why there are so many cancer cases in India?
In view of the increasing cases of cancer, a research was done recently in which shocking figures have been revealed. On August 20, the report of Java Network came out, stating that almost every tenth person in India is estimated to get cancer during his lifetime. That is, about 11 percent of the population faces this deadly disease. The National Cancer Registry Program Investigator Group has done this research.
In this study, more than 7 lakh cancer cases were research. Also, 2 lakh cases were studied in which there were deaths due to cancer. This figure shows that cancer has now become a challenge of large scale, not just the problem.
Which states are more affected
- Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram, is the most affected in cancer cases. There were maximum number of cancer cases. Here, out of every 1 lakh men, 256 men were found to be cancer, while 217 out of every one lakh women got cancer.
- 6 districts of Northeast India are the most serious, where most cancer cases are being found. Apart from here, the rate of cancer in Kashmir Valley and Kerala was also found to be higher. In Hyderabad, 154 women of every 1 lakh women were found to be cancer patients.
More cases of breast cancer and oral cancer
In the North-East part of the country, two types of cancer cases are becoming more like esophagal cancer. It is a cancer in the food pipe. The second is stomach cancer. Cases of breast cancer and oral cancer are being found in big cities. At the same time, cervical cancer was found to be the highest in the villages.
Delhi’s situation worrying
The situation in Delhi is particularly worrying. Reasons like pollution, changing lifestyle, catering habits and lack of screening in metros are promoting cancer cases here. In Delhi, cases of Acute MyLoid Leukemia are seen increasing.
3,000 new cancer cases in Delhi
- In recent years, only about 3,000 such new cases are being registered in Delhi every year, in which the number of people between 30 and 40 years of age is increasing worrying. These figures tell us that cancer is affecting the life of the youth not only of the elderly, but also the life of the youth.
- In Delhi, not only blood cancer, the cases of lung cancer are also increasing – even people without smoking! One of the major reasons for this is Delhi’s contaminated air and increasing pollution. Poisonous particles like PM2.5 reaching the body with daily breaths are the biggest source of lung cancer and other respiratory diseases.
