World’s largest stampede: Mina Stampede, Saudi Arabia (2015)
This incident is considered to be the world’s largest stampede. In 2015, during the Haj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, more than 2400 people died after being crushed in a huge crowd near the Jamarat Bridge in Mina. The reason for this accident has not been completely clear till date, but it was also considered to be the reason for tension between Saudi and Iran.

In Saudi Arabia itself, in the year 1990, about 1426 Haj pilgrims died in a tunnel due to suffocation and crowd pressure. This tunnel was made for a capacity of only 1000 people, but about 5000 people entered it. Many people fell unconscious due to ventilation failure.

In 2005, rumors of a suicide attack spread during a pilgrimage in Baghdad, Iraq. In this panic, thousands of people ran towards the bridge, due to which the railing broke and 953 people died after falling into the Tigris river.

An accident also happened during Hajj in Saudi Arabia in the year 2006. 364 people died and hundreds were injured in the stampede of the crowd on the way.
Phnom Penh incident, Cambodia (2010)
In 2010, during the Water Festival in Cambodia, thousands of people gathered together on the bridge. 347 people died and many were injured in the sudden chaos.
Mandher Devi temple stampede, Maharashtra (2005)
In the year 2005, there was chaos in the Mandher Devi temple of Maharashtra due to a fire during the puja on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. In this stampede, 291 devotees were crushed to death while fleeing.
