Till a few decades ago, brain stroke was a disease affecting only the elderly. From rural areas to cities, this used to happen mostly to the elderly. But now a new study has revealed something shocking. Research has shown that one out of every 7 stroke patients in the country is below 45 years of age. This research has been done by the National Center for Disease Informatics and Research. This research has been included in the International Journal of Stroke.
In the research, data of about 35,000 stroke cases registered in 30 hospitals of the country between 2020 and 2022 was extracted. Research revealed that a total of 13.8% of these patients were below 45 years of age. In this also, more than 60% of the patients were men. Research also revealed that 75 percent of stroke patients complained of high BP. Research has also shown that 40% of these patients reached the hospital 24 hours after the stroke, due to which treatment was delayed and 30% of these patients also died.
What are the reasons for brain stroke at a young age?
Research has shown that the biggest reason for brain stroke at a young age is high blood pressure caused by bad lifestyle. Now people are suffering from high blood pressure at an early age. High BP is causing brain stroke. Apart from this, smoking and poor sleep pattern are also one of the causes of stroke.
In some cases, old brain injury has also been cited as a reason. Along with this, diabetes and tobacco consumption are also the reasons. Research has shown that 27 percent of stroke patients had diabetes. 20 percent of the total patients are consuming tobacco in some form or the other.
