He met a 32-year-old woman on a dating app. He had gone thinking that they would have a good time together, but he had no idea that he was going to invite trouble. When the young man asked to halve the bill if the date did not go well, the girl threatened him with a police case.
The young man wrote on Reddit, ‘Met a 32-year-old woman on the dating app Hinge. We met for the first time in a restaurant. But the date did not go very well. According to the young man, the girl’s behavior related to table manners and behavior towards the staff was uncomfortable. The date was completely platonic and ended with just a handshake. The cost of food and drinks during the date was Rs 2000.
Controversy over split-wise request
After the date, the young man sent half of the bill of about Rs 2200 to the girl through Splitwise. When the girl did not respond for several hours, the young man messaged her 3-4 times and reminded her. According to the boy, the girl then replied that I was going to pay and who asks for money on the first date? After this he immediately blocked me.
The young man got angry and made several calls at night.
The young man found this behavior of the girl wrong and in anger he called the girl 2-3 times at 1 am in the night. But the girl did not pick up. Then the young man sent her a message that he had reported Hinge’s profile against her, because blocking and not giving money is wrong.

Girl sent money at 3 o’clock in the night and threatened to report to police
The young man further wrote that at 3 o’clock the girl sent the money in the jeep, but wrote a message along with it, seeing which he got scared. The girl wrote that there was a problem with my Google Pay, that is why it was late. Now I will file a harassment case against you with the police. The young man is nervous after this message. She fears that calling late at night and asking her to report the dating app might go against her.
People are reacting a lot after hearing this incident on Reddit. One user wrote, ‘Don’t worry, this is just an attempt from his side to remove you from his back. Forget it and move on. At the same time, one user wrote, ‘Although your intentions are right, you should not have called at 1 o’clock in the night, nor should you have followed up repeatedly. Not worth all this trouble. The bill should have been divided there itself.
Did the young man really cross any legal limits?
Calling at night may be considered inappropriate legally, but it does not amount to criminal “harassment” unless:
- No frequent unwanted calls/messages
- No threatening, abusive or intimidating language
- There is no pattern of stalking or stalking
- 2-3 calls and a message can be considered inappropriate behavior at most, not a crime.
