Yogi government’s Lakhpati Didi scheme changed the picture of rural women, new livelihood from 8.96 lakh SHGs

Lakhpati Didi program in Uttar Pradesh has strengthened the economic status of women. 18.56 lakh women have become millionaires and the target is 28.92 lakh by 2027. Women associated with 8.96 lakh SHGs are earning sustainable income through agriculture, entrepreneurship and handicrafts.

Lucknow. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, there has been a big change in the direction of economic empowerment of women in Uttar Pradesh. Lakhpati Didi program has strengthened women in every village. Till November, 18.56 lakh women of the state have become lakhpati, that is, they are continuously earning an income of more than one lakh rupees every year. This change is increasing their economic independence as well as their self-confidence and leadership abilities.

28.92 lakh women will become millionaires by 2027

A total of 35.94 lakh women have been identified in the state, out of which the income details of 29.68 lakh women are recorded in the Digital Livelihood Register. The central government aims to ensure that by the year 2026–27, the annual income of 2 crore self-help group members across the country should be more than Rs 1 lakh.

Under this, Uttar Pradesh has been given a target of 28.92 lakh lakhpati women. According to the state government, the target of 18.56 lakh has been achieved by November 2025 and the remaining 10.36 lakh women will also achieve this feat within the time limit.

Big change in rural economy

In Uttar Pradesh, women from 98.49 lakh rural families are associated with a total of 8,96,618 self-help groups. These groups are providing support, training and markets to each other through 62,958 village organisations. Women are earning income in many fields-

  • agriculture based work
  • animal husbandry
  • Handicraft
  • food processing
  • small service enterprise

The government has a clear target that the annual income of every member should not be less than Rs 1 lakh in each crop cycle and quarterly period for three consecutive years. This will strengthen the economic condition of rural families and ensure sustainable livelihood.

Lakhpati Didi program is not just a scheme to increase income but is becoming a major medium of social change. Millionaire women now-

  • Participate in important family decisions
  • Villages are becoming the driving force of development and change.
