In today’s time, many health related problems are increasing due to bad lifestyle and wrong eating habits. In which diabetes is the most common. In every house some person or the other has this problem. According to the World Health Organization, the number of people affected by diabetes was 200 million in 1990, which will increase to 830 million by 2022. According to estimates, in India, about 77 million people above the age of 18 years are suffering from type 2 diabetes and about 25 million people are in prediabetes, which means they are more likely to have this problem in future. More than 50 percent of people do not know that they have diabetes, due to which if it is not recognized and treated on time, it can be harmful to health.
Diabetes can cause kidney failure, eye and heart related problems. This causes eye disease called diabetic retinopathy. Apart from this, the physical wounds of the person suffering from this do not heal quickly. Therefore, it is very important to detect and treat it at the right time.
What is diabetes?
Diabetes, it is also known as diabetes. In this, the level of blood sugar i.e. glucose in the body increases significantly. This happens when the body doesn’t make enough insulin or when your body can’t use it properly or doesn’t make enough insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps move blood sugar into cells for energy. Wrong lifestyle and unhealthy eating habits can also be the reason behind this. Apart from this, genetic is the most common reason. It cannot be completely cured, but is managed by medicines, diet, exercise and adopting the right lifestyle. It is of two types.

World Diabetes Day is celebrated every year on 14 November. This day is created to spread awareness about diabetes among the people and to tell people about its dangers and methods of prevention. For this, workshops and seminars are organized in schools, societies and many other places to spread awareness about diabetes.
What is history?
Celebrating World Diabetes Day started in 1991. Which was started jointly by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization. It is made on 14th November because it is the birth anniversary of Frederick Banting. He discovered insulin in 1922. The objective of which was to spread awareness among people about diabetes. Later it started being celebrated every year with a theme. In 2006, the decision was taken by the United Nations to officially celebrate it as World Diabetes Day.

This year it is being celebrated with the theme “Diabetes Across Life Stages”. Every person with diabetes deserves the right treatment, a supportive environment and a plan that helps them maintain their health, dignity and self-care. Diabetes cannot be completely cured, it can only be controlled. Along with this, it is very important to keep some things in mind to prevent this. To avoid type 2 diabetes, this disease can be prevented to some extent by eating less sweets, avoiding junk and oily food, taking a healthy diet, exercising daily, managing weight and getting blood sugar checked from time to time. Those people whose family member already has this problem should take special care of these things.
