Festivals like Eid, Muharram are decided on the sighting of the moon, hence their dates are not fixed in advance. The government issues update notices for Delhi offices later. Rest of the states adjust the dates of holidays according to their state government. Diwali is falling on Sunday in 2026. In some states, people celebrate Diwali on the day of Narak Chaturdashi. If any state declares a holiday on that day, then central government offices can also follow the same date.
