Before their game against the visiting Boston Celtics on Halloween night, the Philadelphia 76ers are a startling 4-0 and in first place in the Atlantic Division.
The 76ers will meet the Celtics in the NBA Cup, the National Basketball Association’s in-season competition, for the first time. In addition, the Sixers will install new flooring at home to commemorate the start of the competition. Here are some essential details about the NBA Cup, including the layout of the Sixers’ court during the competition.
What Is The NBA Cup?
All 30 NBA clubs will compete in the round-robin, group-format NBA Cup, which should not be confused with the NBA Playoffs or NBA Finals.
It was created to increase player engagement with the early-season product and to generate spectator interest in the NBA throughout the first and middle parts of the season. Players on the winning squad will receive prizes, and there will be a Most Valuable Player award during the group play that runs until the end of November.
“All 30 teams have been randomly drawn into groups of five within their conference based on won-loss records from the 2024-25 regular season,” according to the NBA. “Each team will play four designated Group Play games – one game against each opponent in its group, with two games at home and two on the road. Group Play games will be played on designated ‘Cup Nights.’
“Cup Nights will take place every Friday, with additional Cup Nights on Tuesday November 25 and Wednesday November 26.”
Why Is The 76ers’ Court Blue?
To celebrate their run to the NBA Cup, the 76ers will unveil a new court. Over a massive NBA Cup illustration, “Phila” is inscribed through center court on the Sixers’ blue, red-bordered NBA Cup floor. Both free throw lanes are also occupied by the NBA Cup trophy. In addition, there are 13 stars on the court that circle the center court and go past the baselines.
The Halloween NBA Cup game between the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers will begin at 7 p.m. from the Xfinity Mobile Arena in South Philadelphia. NBA League Pass and Prime Video will both livestream the match.
