Jasprit Bumrah-Temba Bavuma: The day of 14th November at Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata was entirely in the name of Jasprit Bumrah. On the very first day of the first test match between India and South Africa, Jasprit Bumrah wreaked havoc with his bowling. Bumrah, playing Test cricket for the first time on this historic ground, took 5 wickets, terrorizing the entire batting line-up of South Africa. But apart from this, Bumrah also came into limelight due to his words, because he used objectionable words for South African captain Temba Bavuma and now because of this, the threat of ICC action is looming on him.

Called Bavuma a dwarf and also abused him.

Generally, Bumrah, famous for his calm style on the field, is occasionally seen making any kind of statement about the opposing players. But on the first day of the Kolkata Test match, Bumrah showed a form which hardly anyone would have expected. This happened on the last ball of the 13th over of the innings, when an LBW appeal was made against Temba Bavuma. It was here that Bumrah discussed DRS with captain Shubman Gill and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant.

During this, Bumrah, while referring to Bavuma’s height, called him ‘dwarf’. Pant also repeated this word. But Bumrah did not stop after speaking once. While returning after the DRS discussion was over, he again called Bavuma a ‘dwarf’ and also used shameful abuses. All these abusive words that came out of Bumrah’s mouth were recorded on the stump mic and immediately went viral on social media. Now this can also become a cause of trouble for Bumrah.

Violation of ICC Code of Conduct

In fact, Bumrah’s use of such dirty words comes under the ambit of violation of the ICC Code of Conduct. Article 2.13 of the ICC Code of Conduct is specifically related to this, which talks about the use of abusive language against a player, support staff, umpire or match referee during an international match. There are different provisions for punishment for this violation, ranging from reprimand to fine. But the most important thing is the demerit point, which remains in the player’s account for 24 months.

What punishment will Bumrah get?

Now if action is taken against Bumrah, he may be reprimanded or his match fee may be deducted by 20 to 50 percent. At the same time, they can also be given one or two demerit points. If this happens then Bumrah may face the threat of a ban in the future. In fact, Bumrah also got one demerit point for an action during the Asia Cup. According to the rules, if a player has 4 demerit points in his name within 24 months, then these are converted into suspension points and then that player can be banned for one Test match or 2 ODIs or 2 T20 matches.
