West Bengal By Election Live: TMC flag hoisted on Sitai, Madarihat, Naihati seats, preparations for clean sweep on remaining 3 seats also

Counting of votes is going on for the assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. Besides, votes are also being counted for the by-elections held in many states. Trinamool Congress is once again seen in control of the assembly by-elections in West Bengal. Sangeeta Roy has won the Sitai seat while Jaiprakash Toppo has won the Madarihat seat. Sanat Dey has defeated his rival Rupak Mitra of BJP in Naihati assembly seat of North 24 Parganas region. Whereas in Taldangra assembly seat of Bankura, Trinamool Congress is ahead since the beginning. TMC has also taken lead in Haroa seat.

By-elections are being held on 2 reserved seats as well as 4 other seats in West Bengal. In this, Sitai seat is reserved for Scheduled Caste and Madarihat for Scheduled Tribe. Apart from this, by-elections were held on 13 November on Medinipur, Naihati, Haroa and Taldangra assembly seats.

Medinipur, Madarihat, Sitai, Naihati, Haroa and Taldangra assembly seats fall in the southern region of West Bengal and are considered a Trinamool Congress stronghold, while Madarihat seat falls in the northern part of the state and is considered a BJP stronghold. But this time Mamata Banerjee has been successful in breaking into the stronghold of BJP.

Apart from TMC, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as well as CPM-led Left Front and Congress also contested on different grounds in the by-elections. Both of them entered the field separately for the first time after 2021.

what’s going on in which seat

Reserve for Scheduled Castes (SC) seat seat But TMC’s Sangeeta Roy has defeated her nearest rival, BJP’s Deepak Kumar Ray by a huge margin of 1,30,636 votes. Sangeeta Roy got 1,65,984 votes while Deepak Kumar got only 35,348 votes.

Reserve for Scheduled Tribe (ST) Madarihat seat But TMC’s Jayprakash Toppo has defeated BJP candidate Rahul Lohar by just 28,168 votes. Jayaprakash Toppo got 79,186 votes while Rahul Lohar could get 50,602 votes. This seat was won by BJP in the 2021 assembly elections.

Naihati seat But TMC’s Sanat Dey has defeated BJP candidate Rupak Mitra. Rupak Mitra secured 29,495 votes while Sanat De secured 78,772 votes, winning by a huge margin of 49,277 votes.

haroa seat But TMC’s SK Rabiul Islam is leading. He has secured 1,45,335 votes so far, while his rival All India Secular Front’s Piyarul Islam is trailing by 1,20,709 votes.

Medinipur seat But TMC’s Sujoy Hazra has come ahead with 93,633 votes, which is ahead of BJP’s Subhajit Roy (Bunty) by a margin of 30,686 votes.

taldangra seat But TMC’s Falguni Singhababu is leading with 71,922 votes, who is leading by 25,580 votes over BJP’s Ananya Roy Chakraborty.
