Carlos Prates entered the welterweight rankings with first-round finish of Neil Magny in the headliner of UFC Vegas 100: Magny vs. Neil at the UFC Apex Facility in Las Vegas on Saturday (November 10).
The 11-fight card saw an incredible 8 fights, including the headliner, end in stoppages, while three fights went the distance in Las Vegas. Among the 8 finishes, five were either knockout (KO) or technical knockout (TKO), and 2 were submission wins.
While there was no fight of the night award, four fighters including the main eventer Prates bagged performance bonus from the event. Mansur Abdul-Malik, Charles Radtke and Da’Mon Blackshear were the other three who took home an extra USD50K. Here is the recap for the UFC on ESPN+ 105 event:
UFC Vegas 100 Recap
In the main event, rising welterweight star Prates gave No. 15 ranked veteran Magny all he could handle in a first round of fast action. Prates used his striking and shoots to put Magny on his back foot, then knocked him out clean for the first round victory.
Following the early stoppage, Prates said, “I’m feeling awesome. This year was so far the best year of my life, of my career. The hard work is paying off. I think (the secret) is a lot of experience in in Thailand, living, doing sometimes four fights per month – more than 100 Muay Thai fights gave me a lot of experience.
“Also, every day I come to the gym, train with those guys, and they make me ready for everything. (Next) I think the perfect fight would be in Australia, because I have a daughter there, and I really, really would love visiting her again and fight there against Jack De La Maddalena. I respect this guy, but it would be amazing.”
In the co-main event, former One Championship double champ Reinier de Ridder made his UFC debut against veteran Gerald Meerschaert, the man with the most submissions in UFC history.
An ironic opening round saw Meerschaert’s striking on point while de Ridder landed takedowns then got a knockdown in the final seconds to steal the round. Round two saw fortunes reversed, as Meerschaert edged ahead by capitalizing on his grappling in top position for most of the round.
De Ridder made his prediction come true by finishing the veteran grappler with a submission in the final round. After announcing his arrival to the Octagon in style, De Ridder said he is open to taking his next fight in UFC as early as next week.
“Thank you, Gerald Meerschaert. It wasn’t personal. It was my first one here, so I really wanted to show some good stuff, and I hope I did. Did I get hurt? Not really, right? New York is on the way home so if you guys need me at Madison Square Garden next week, give me a call at a couple hours,” De Ridder said in post-fight Octagon interview.
Also on the main card, Mansur Abdul-Malik stopped Dusko Todorovic, while Gaston Bolanos and Gillian Robertso earned two of the three decisions on the whole card after the preliminary card saw one fight end in decision and the remaining five in stoppages.
Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos, Charles Radtke, Da’Mon Blackshear, Tresean Gore and Melissa Mullins claimed stoppage wins in the prelims before Denise Gomes dominated Karolina Kowalkiewicz for the decision. Here is a look at the final results of UFC Fight Night 247:
