The auction of players for the IPL 2026 season is to be held on December 16 and this time too many big names are going to appear on the auction table. While all the fans want to see the players of their choice in their respective franchises, one of the most successful and most liked legends of IPL will not enter the auction this time. Yes, former South African captain and star batsman Faf du Plessis has decided to leave IPL after 14 years. Du Plessis issued a statement saying that this time he will not enter the IPL auction and also gave a special reason for this.
What did Du Plessis say on leaving IPL?
On November 29, about two and a half weeks before the auction to be held in Abu Dhabi, former Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Duplessis issued a statement on social media and said that this time he will not give his name in the auction. Duplessis wrote, “After spending 14 years in the IPL, I have decided that this year I will not give my name in the auction. This is a big decision and has been taken with great gratitude.”
Du Plessis, who won the IPL title twice with Chennai Super Kings, was a part of Delhi Capitals last season but this time the franchise released him before the auction. After this the 40 year old South African star has taken this decision. Describing this decision, Du Plessis wrote, “This league has been a big part of my journey. I have been lucky to have the opportunity to play with and in front of world class teammates, a great franchise and extremely passionate fans.”
