This incident took place in Putuo district of Shanghai. Police say 36-year-old Chen defrauded at least five women of money within 10 days. Chen made a woman named Liu Qian his local guide. He offered him a job at a salary of 3,500 yuan (about Rs 44,000). The next day, Chen arrived at her home with a black plastic bag. He assured the woman that the bag contained around 50,000 (approximately Rs 6,30,000) to 60,000 yuan (approximately Rs 7,55,000). She said that for Feng Shui, this money has to be kept under the bed, so that luck shines and prosperity comes to the house. After Chen left, Liu opened the bag and discovered that the notes were counterfeit. After this he informed the police and the accused was caught.

Later investigation revealed his fraud. Chen used online profiles posing as agents to trap women with the promise of high-paying jobs. He used fake currency notes to make himself look rich and pretended to be a nightclub owner. His habit was that he would go out for dinner and shopping with women, get them to buy things and when it came time to pay, he would disappear. He used these purchased items to trap his next victim. The police found that in this way he had cheated many women. Police said that Chen has been arrested.
