Mehndi remained on the hands of the bride in Sarai Rehman of Bannadevi police station area of Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. All preparations for the wedding were complete. All arrangements for decorations and food had been completed. The girl’s father was preparing to welcome the wedding procession with his family, relatives and villagers. But before coming for the wedding, the groom demanded a car, cash and plot as dowry. After this sudden demand, the ground slipped from under the feet of the daughter’s father. Darkness started appearing before his eyes. He became infuriated.
Seeing her father sad like this, the girl took a big decision and refused to marry the boy who asked for dowry. The bride said that the boy who is demanding dowry on the wedding day, how will he and his family be able to maintain the relationship in future?
The matter reached the police station instead of the pavilion.
The girl’s family members said that two to three lakh rupees were spent on the wedding and the ceremonies preceding it. Tried to fulfill all their demands as per my capacity, yet their demand is not stopping. The girl’s family has lodged a complaint in the police station against the boy and his family for demanding dowry before marriage and demanded action. In the written complaint given in the police station, the bride’s brother said that because of these people he has been insulted in the society and in his relatives. Strictest action should be taken against such people.
The girl said- Who knows what he will ask for tomorrow?
On refusing to marry, the bride told that her wedding procession was going to come from Patwari Nagla near the bone warehouse. Before the wedding procession started, the groom’s family was asking for a 200 yard plot and a car. The girl said that our family members had arranged for the entire dowry as per the promise. Even after this, the greedy boy and his family were demanding land and car. After this I decided not to marry that boy. If they are demanding so much dowry from us now, they will continue to harass us in future also. The girl told that her marriage was fixed with a young man named Rizwan.
