Significance of Tarn Taran bypoll result for Punjab politics and AAP
The bypoll was triggered following the demise of AAP MLA Dr Kashmir Singh Sohal. Tarn Taran, traditionally a stronghold of the SAD, has seen a political shift in recent years with AAP aggressively expanding its footprint in Punjab.
This election holds significance for AAP, which has already won five out of six bypolls in Punjab since forming the state government in 2022. For SAD and Congress, the result will be a key test of their organisational strength in the border belt.
With several rounds of counting still left, the contest remains open, but early trends suggest an advantage for AAP. The final outcome will become clearer as counting progresses through the day.
