The remarks made by Cruise did not sit well with Shields. The actress responded with an opinion piece of her own in the New York Times, writing, “Tom should stick to saving the world from aliens and let women who are experiencing postpartum depression decide what treatment options are best for them.”

The two stars have previously worked together in the 1981 film Endless Love. Following medical advice that he was misinformed, Cruise eventually apologized to Shields in public the following year, and she publicly accepted his apology.
