The problem of number 4 had been a cause of trouble for Team India for a long time. After the departure of Yuvraj Singh, Team India did not get a batsman of this number. The team explored many options but could not succeed. This number was the biggest weakness of Team India in the World Cup-2019 played in England. But now it seems that this problem of India is over. According to Team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid, Shreyas Iyer has solved this problem. Iyer scored three half-centuries and one century while staying at number-4 in the ODI World Cup-2023. He played an unbeaten inning of 128 runs against Netherlands on Sunday. After this inning, Rahul Dravid praised Iyer and described him as an important link in the middle order of the team.
Batting first in the last league match of the World Cup against Netherlands, India scored 410 runs losing four wickets. Netherlands team collapsed for only 250 runs in this match. Iyer played an unbeaten inning of 128 runs in this match. To score so many runs, he faced 94 balls and hit five sixes apart from 10 fours.
Iyer is the backbone
While talking to Star Sports after the match played against Netherlands, Rahul Dravid said that Iyer is the backbone of the team’s middle order. Rahul Dravid said that it was difficult for the team to find a good number-4 batsman for the last 10 years but Iyer has filled this gap. Iyer was injured in the Test series against Australia earlier this year. After this, India had trouble regarding number-4. But when he returned, he took over and strengthened the team.
great under pressure
Even in the press conference before the match, Dravid had praised Iyer a lot. He had said that Iyer plays brilliantly in pressure situations because he has a good temperament. Dravid had said that he has played some innings under pressure which shows that he has the ability to withstand pressure and in such situations he brings out the best from within himself.
