Rohan Bopanna Retirement: India’s star tennis player Rohan Bopanna has announced his retirement from professional tennis after a brilliant career of 22 years. His last match was at the Paris Masters 1000, where he played doubles with Alexander Bublik. Earlier this year, Bopanna had created history by becoming the oldest Grand Slam winner and the oldest World No. 1 player in doubles tennis. Rohan Bopanna informed about his retirement in an emotional post on social media.

Starting my journey from a small town in Coorg, India, chopping wood to strengthen my serve, running in coffee plantations to build stamina and chasing dreams on broken courts, standing under the lights of the world’s biggest court – it all feels surreal.

Tennis is everything for me

Rohan said, “Tennis has not been just a game for me. It has given me purpose when I was lost, strength when I was broken and faith when the world doubted me”. He said that every time I came on the court, it taught me determination, the flexibility to get up, the courage to fight again. Most of all, reminded me why I started and who I am?

Rohan Bopanna achieved this milestone

45-year-old Bopanna ended his career with two Grand Slam titles. 2024 Australian Open Men’s Doubles (with Matthew Ebden) and 2017 French Open Mixed Doubles (with Gabriela Dabrowski). He also reached the finals of four Grand Slams. Twice in men’s doubles. With Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi in the US Open in 2020 and with Ebden in the US Open in 2023. Apart from this, he has also played the finals of mixed doubles twice. Played final matches with Timea Babos in Australian Open in 2018 and Sania Mirza in Australian Open in 2023.
