After the success of Jailer, Superstar Rajinikanth is now gearing up for two equally massive projects – Thalaivar 170 with Jai Bhim director T.J.Gnanavel, and Thalaivar 171 where the superstar collaborates with Leo filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj.

Reports are coming in that Malayalam star Mammootty will be joining the cast of Thalaivar 170, and sharing the screen with Rajinikanth.

The rumours have further escalated the excitement level of all Rajinikanth fans and film-goers who were excited with the prospect of the Jailer actor working with the Jai Bhim director.

If true, this will not be the first time Mammootty and Rajinikanth will act together in a film though. Thalapathi, the 1991 film by Mani Ratnam had the two giants share the screen. Thalapathi was a modern-day adaptation of Mahabharat where Mammootty played a contemporary Duryodhana figure, where Rajinikanth played the underdog Karna, a brilliant yet underdog warrior who was more often than not a victim of prejudice and neglect by everyone around him.

The scene where Mohanlal and Rajinikanth’s characters interact and discuss the plan to nab the villain figure was one of the highlights of the film.

Earlier this month, both Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth had shared photos from the sets, reminding their followers that the two were collaborating for the first time since Hum, their 1991 film directed by Mukul S. Anand.
