Premanand Maharaj
Premanand Maharaj: The tradition of doing charity has been going on for centuries in Hindu religion. People donate to the needy and other religious places as per their capacity. It is believed that by doing charity one gets God’s blessings. All the sorrows of life go away. However, many times when people do not donate, a question comes to their mind that if they do not donate then they will become guilty of sin.
A devotee asked a question related to charity to the famous saint and spiritual guru of Vrindavan, Premanand Maharaj. The devotee asked Premanand Maharaj that if a saint or a person comes to the house asking for alms or charity and if we do not give him the charity, will he curse us? Premanand Maharaj answered this.
Is there a curse on not donating?
Answering this question, Premanand Maharaj said that if he had the ability to curse, why would he wander from house to house. Apart from these, the saints who ask for money are extreme hypocrites. A true saint also does not think of harming anyone. Even if he gets angry, his anger becomes good. He said that just as Narad ji cursed Nalkubar and Manigriva to become trees, but ultimately due to the same curse they got the darshan of Shri Krishna and salvation.
Who should donate?
According to Premanand Maharaj, charity should always be given to those who are deserving. Donation should not be given to a deserving person. Good saints are those who truly dedicate their lives to God. The scriptures and Acharyas have accepted the practice of begging because it destroys the pride of the seeker. If the sages and saints go to five houses each and ask for one or two rotis, then they have food for the whole day.
