PM Surya Ghar free electricity scheme has got great success in Agra division. More than 82 thousand people have applied. The scheme is providing cheap electricity to consumers, employment to youth through ‘Surya Mitra’ training and promotion of green energy in the state.
Agra. Due to the Yogi government’s policy of increasing green energy, Uttar Pradesh is rapidly becoming self-sufficient in electricity production. This policy is also creating employment opportunities on a large scale. Centre’s PM Surya Ghar free electricity scheme has got remarkable success in Agra division. Here more than 82 thousand people have applied to illuminate their homes and establishments with solar energy. Due to this, Braj region is moving rapidly in the direction of green energy.
More than 82 thousand applications in Agra division
UP NEDA Project Officer (Additional Charge) Khagendra Singh said that due to the incentive policies of the Uttar Pradesh government and PM Surya Ghar Yojana, the use of solar energy is continuously increasing. Only in Agra division 82,759 people have applied. Of these, 30,502 applications have been received from Agra district alone.
He said that the scheme is benefiting the state’s economy, environment and employment—all while providing affordable electricity to consumers. Through this scheme, so far more than 3,200 people have got direct and indirect employment in Agra division.
New path for youth through ‘Surya Mitra’ training
An important part of this scheme is the ‘Surya Mitra’ training programme. UP NEDA provides free training to youth on installation and maintenance of solar panels. Through this training, youth are getting an opportunity to make a career in the solar sector and get employment. Thousands of vendors, companies and trained technicians are creating new employment opportunities.
Solar installation and maintenance technical assistant Pankaj Yadav said that after taking training from NEDA, he immediately got a job in a solar company. Earlier he was unemployed, but now he is making a permanent career. According to him, this scheme is helping the youth to become self-reliant.
Benefits and savings of free electricity to consumers
Consumers who have availed the benefits of PM Surya Ghar Yojana are also very happy. Roma, a resident of Vijay Nagar, Agra, said that earlier electricity bills used to bother him a lot. But after installing rooftop solar, now their house is illuminated with solar energy and there is huge saving in electricity bill. He said that this is a big relief given by the government.
